A review of the new ergoPouch 3.5 TOG Cocoon Swaddle Bag

Newborn Sleep Product Information

We asked Mum, registered nurse and paediatric sleep consultant Tara from Gentlesleep.com.au what she thought of our new 3.5 TOG Cocoon Swaddle Bag. Here's what she had to say.

The newest product from ergoPouch, the 3.5 TOG Cocoon Swaddle Bag, would have to be one of my favourite sleep products for newborns.

Dressing our little ones appropriately can be something that many parents become really overwhelmed by, leaving us questioning our choices every night.

When dressing our newborns, the missing piece was keeping them warm enough in their swaddle – especially in the cooler winter months. When ergoPouch first presented the idea of a 3.5 TOG Cocoon Swaddle Bag, I immediately loved it.

Newborns are unable to regulate their temperatures well and often require a little more than we do to keep themselves warm enough. Having a Swaddle Bag warm enough for winter means we don't have to worry about piling on blankets or where blankets will end up. It means our little ones' arms and hands are kept warm, making the swaddle ideal for taking on the go. Not to mention, it's perfect for those little wriggly newborns who are constantly managing to get their hands out of the traditional wrap swaddle.

Many parents often put all kinds of blankets on their little ones, which is not recommended for safety reasons. We can be assured that your little one can be warm enough with breathable, natural fibres that still allows the skin to breathe—making it more gentle on newborn skin and the perfect solution for those with eczema and other skin irritations.

To top it off, this sleeping bag is 1 TOG around the chest, which prevents overheating and allows for full chest expansion.

I recommend using a Cocoon Swaddle Bag for each sleep from the get-go, with their arms in until around four months of age or until they are rolling. It will take them a few days to adjust to having their arms free when the time comes, but the Cocoon Swaddle Bag makes for an easier transition as you can take one arm out at a time to allow for a smoother adjustment.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Warmest always,
