Step one

Gather the following tools

Spray bottle or damp cloth
Pen
Measuring tape
Scissors

Step two

Measure your window and Window Blockout Blind

Step three

Cut the Window Blockout according to your measurements

Step four

Use a spray bottle or a damp cloth and lightly apply water to your window

Step five

From the top corners of your window, slowly apply the Window Blockout shiny side against the glass

Step six

You can peel off the Window Blockout Blind and re-apply it when needed!

How to get the perfect fit on your windows

Measure twice, cut once.
Cut slightly more (1cm or so) than your measurements to allow a buffer for uneven windows. Once applied, trim away excess if needed.
Ensure window is clean before applying. Lightly mist your window before applying for better stick.
Hairline fractures from uneven windows can be covered using tape if desired
If the blind bubbles or becomes unstuck, try cleaning your window and applying a light mist of water before reapplying.
Ensure the blind is free of debris, pet hair etc. These things will affect the static cling.

Tips & Tricks for using the Window Blockout

Prior to purchasing, please check your windows are suitable. Our blinds will not work on windows with tint, glaze or texture. If you have uneven windows, please be mindful you may not get the 'perfect' application and a few extra strips to patch up slithers of light may be necessary.

Depending on window size, blinds may require 2 people to successfully apply. It may take a couple of attempts to apply in the correct position, you've got this!

Ensure the window is clean before application. We recommend wiping with water, to remove any dirt, grime, residue or mould.

After cleaning, wipe your windows down with Windex or a cleaning product, ensuring no streaks or product residue is left behind.

If your windows are in direct sunlight, humid conditions or warm conditions like under a heating vent, allow for shrinkage. We recommend allowing an extra +0.5cm all way around the frame, before you cut. Note these conditions may also contribute to higher risk of blinds falling off.

Apply blinds from top window down. Just like applying applying wallpaper, wall decals or contact to books, take your time. Slowly apply the blind to the window, ensuring to smooth out the air bubbles as you go, while peeling the underside off.

It's best to use a credit card, window squeegee or rolled up towel for smoothing to ensure a bubble-free finish. If a few small bubble remain, don't worry! The blinds will still stay adhered to the window.

If there any large air bubbles or bunching on the inside of blinds, this can comprise the adhesion and increase risk of falling down. You'll need to take them down and reapply again from top-down, smoothing as you go.

Very low temperatures also may affect application. Condensation on window and heaters may cause blinds to peel away from window.

Ensure the shiny side of the blind is free of dirt, fluff, debris, pet hair etc. These things will affect the static cling and may cause the blind to peel off.

Storage and transport

Roll or fold for storage. As the blind sticks with static, it can be safely rolled or folded, without sticking back onto itself.

The blinds can be taken down daily to let light in. We recommend you store them in a way that dust, fluff, pet hair or other debris cannot be collected on the blind whilst off the window.

FAQs for using the Window Blockout Blind

Can I put this on the outside of the window?

No. This blind is designed for indoor use, and may peel off your window if exposed to the elements.

Does the blind leave glue or residue on my window?

No. The blind sticks to your window with static cling (like you generate to stick your hair to a balloon). There is no glue and therefore no residue left on your window.

Can I remove the blinds during the day?

You sure can! The blinds do not use adhesive to stick to your windows, meaning they can be taken down and reapplied as many times as you like. Ensure the shiny side of the blind is clean before reapplying. Use a light mist of water on your windows to improve cling.

Is the blind toxic?

Our blinds are non-toxic. If you notice a slight smell out of the box, please air the blind outside before applying to your windows.

How many rolls will I need?

We recommend measuring your windows before purchasing, to see how many rolls you need. Each roll measures 46x183 cm. You can use multiple rolls on one large window to ensure complete coverage.

Does the blind work with tinted windows?

No. The tinting on windows means the static cling does not work effectively.

Does the blind stick to frosted or obscure glass?

No. The blind needs a flat, smooth surface to ensure the static cling works effectively.

Does the blind stand up to direct sunlight at the height of summer?

Yes. The shiny side of the blind is designed to reflect light away, to help keep rooms cooler in hot weather. If your blind starts to peel from heat, simply reapply using a light mist of water to help improve the static cling.

What do I do if the blind bubbles or starts to peel off?

Simply reapply using a light mist of water to help improve the static cling. Before reapplication, check the shiny side of the window is free of debris, and that the window is clean. The blind will not ahdere as well to dirty windows.
