Everyday Parents review the Stretch Base Layers

We've received a lot of feedback over the years around zip configuration on layers. Whether you love them or loathe them we wanted to provide an option for parents who just want to dress without the hassle of zippers. Our new Stretch Base Layers are designed as a zip-free, slim-fit option. These layers serve as an ideal alternative for bodywear.

To ensure that these new layers meet the needs of families, we enlisted three parents to test them out and provide their honest feedback. Here’s what they had to say about their experience with the Stretch Base Layers:

Siobhan gave five stars

"The Stretch Base Layer is an absolute game changer! The fabric is buttery soft and incredibly stretchy, making it super comfortable for bub to wear all day or night. It fits perfectly under clothes, adding that extra layer of warmth without bulk. No more worrying about cold legs, especially during chilly nights. What I love most is how easy it makes those middle of the night changes, no fiddling with zips or studs, just quick and simple access. It’s practical, cozy, and thoughtfully designed for busy parents. A must have staple in any baby wardrobe. I’ll definitely be getting more, cannot recommend it enough!"

Phoebe gave five stars

"The stretch base layer was an absolute game changer from our 12 month old not sleeping through the night due to the cold weather. Then having that extra layer made a huge difference in his sleep pattern. He is now sleeping all the way through and is such a happy warm little baby."

Ereena gave five stars

"We love how soft and stretchy it is, our daughter has a long body and clothing fit is a challenge particularly over a bulky cloth nappy but this is amazing! So soft, snuggly and warm."

Was the Stretch Base Layer easier to put on without zips? and how was it during nappy changes?

"The first time putting the Stretch Base Layer on was a little awkward, only because I’d never used anything like it before, but once I got the hang of it, it was a total game changer. Now it’s so easy and effortless to use. It makes nappy changes quick and smooth, with no fiddly studs or zips to slow you down. It’s especially perfect for wriggly babies who love to roll (like mine!). The fit is snug yet stretchy, and the fabric is unbelievably soft. Honestly, I don’t know how we managed without it. An absolute must have in our baby essentials!" - Siobhan

"Love the no zips. It has made fitting our little one much easier. She has a long body and and with a bulky nappy I've struggled to get things to fit. Takes a bit of getting used to at the beginning but I think I like it better than clothing with zips."- Ereena

"I found it a little tricky to navigate especially when he would wriggle, but it’s definitely effective and easy to work around"- Phoebe

How did you use the Stretch Base Layer? Did you use it under a Sleeping Bag or did you use it under a onesie as bodywear? And how effective was it for an additional layer of warmth?

"We’ve used our Stretch Base Layer in just about every way imaginable; under onesies, sleep sacks, snowsuits, and everyday clothes. It’s become an essential part of our baby’s wardrobe. My bub usually wakes up freezing during overnight feeds and nappy changes, so I was genuinely surprised (and relieved!) to find his legs warm and toasty while wearing the base layer. It’s made a huge difference, especially with our nights dropping to -3°C. The fabric is soft, stretchy, and super comfy, perfect for layering under clothes. Highly recommend for cold climates!"- Siobhan

"Under a onesie in a sleeping bag. Our nights are regularly below 5° and we use a wood fire for heating so the house cools down once the fire dies down. Our daughter definitely feels warmer and sleeps better with it compared with a normal singlet."- Ereena

"So I would have a singlet and then the stretch base layer, then a sleep layer and then a sleeping bag. It was very effective. I would also like to see this product and maybe a one to that would save us then from having to use the heater throughout the night and he would definitely be very snuggly." - Phoebe

How does the Stretch Base Layer compare to other bodywear items on the market?

"Game changer. I’ve never seen anything like it before. The Stretch Base Layer is so much better than other baby bodysuits we’ve used. It’s softer, stretchier, full length and way easier for nappy changes no studs to deal with. It fits well under all kinds of clothes and actually keeps my baby warm, even on really cold nights. Other bodysuits just don’t compare." - Siobhan

"It's so much softer and stretcher. The material is lovely."- Ereena

"Absolutely love it. I’ve never used a product like it. Normally I would layer with a singlet and normal zippy then a sleep layer and then the sleeping bag so it was quite nice. A beautiful stretchy material and great quality."- Phoebe

Would you purchase this product for the RRP of $34.95?

"Yes- If I hadn’t been given the chance to trial this product, I probably would’ve said no based on the price alone. At first glance, I felt the price was a little high, around $25–$30 seemed more reasonable, especially with it being 0.2 TOG. But after using it, I completely changed my mind. The quality, thoughtful design, and full-length coverage really impressed me. It’s soft, stretchy, easy to use, and keeps my bubs warm, something I didn’t expect from such a lightweight layer. I’ll definitely be purchasing a couple more now that I’ve seen the difference it makes"- Siobhan

"Yes– It's soft and has remained so worh heavy duty washing. I also love the fact it covers her legs not just her body or arm"- Ereena

"Yes I think that is a fair price. I am an ego pouch lover and have pretty much every product that ego pouch has sold in our home and I think that is a fair price."- Phoebe
