Ah, the age-old struggle of the cot-to-bed transition. We know this is a huge pain point for parents and their toddlers in their sleep journey. The change is a BIG adjustment. After 16 years in the baby business, one thing’s clear: familiarity and easing into the transition works best for our little minis.

That's why in 2025 we brought back the cult-favourite Convertible Quilt. Thoughtfully designed to support your little one’s journey from cot to big bed, this innovative quilt is perfect for blanket training in a toddler bed. With a clever zip-apart design, it transforms into two separate, TOG-rated quilts for the cot, or zips together to create a single-size quilt for the big bed, growing with your child every step of the way. We invited four families currently navigating the cot-to-bed transition to share their experiences with the Convertible Quilt. Here’s what they discovered:

*Do not use quilts, blankets, pillows or cushions in a cot for a child under the age of 2 years. Ensure the side of the cot is down before using.

"We’ve been using the Convertible Quilt for approximately three to four weeks now, and overall, I’m extremely impressed with its versatility. In particular, I like the two TOG-rated halves, which make it suitable for different stages and seasons.

We’ve used the quilt both separated and zipped together during my toddler’s transition from cot to bed. Initially, we used only the lighter 3.5 TOG half while he was still sleeping in the cot. At that stage, he was also still using a sleeping bag, and the 3.5 TOG quilt provided enough warmth without overheating.

Once we purchased his “big boy bed,” we immediately zipped both halves together to create a full-size quilt. He loved being involved in choosing his own quilt cover, and the Convertible Quilt fits perfectly inside a standard single bed quilt cover, which made the transition even more exciting for him. It also helped us easily transition out of the sleeping bag..he didn’t ask about it again, which felt like a big win.

One of the first things I noticed was how soft and comfortable the quilt feels. The cotton fabric is high quality and breathable, and the zipper system is smooth, secure, and very easy to use. I also like that the quilt can be used either with or without a cover, depending on preference and where your child is in their transition from cot to bed.

Now that we’ve started our toilet training journey, the fact that the quilt is machine washable has been a huge advantage. We’ve washed it once so far, and it still feels brand new, which speaks to the durability and quality of the materials.

While it is on the pricier side, I genuinely see this quilt as a long-term investment. I would confidently recommend it to other parents looking for a practical, adaptable bedding solution that grows with their child."

"I have had the pleasure of trialling the Ergopouch Convertible Quilt. Transitioning my daughter out of the cot and into the toddler bed was something I was dreading as she has slept through the night for a long time but from night one, the Convertible Quilt has been a dream to use. After some practising during the day, my daughter was very excited to use it and turns out, I was nervous about the transition for nothing. Our very first night she fell asleep right away and slept through until morning with no night wake ups. She even had a sleep in!

Instead of deciding what TOG sleep sack to wear with each layer/singlet, which can be especially hard with night time temperature drops, using the Convertible Quilt made dressing for sleep easy and less stressful. The ease of selecting the thicker half for cooler nights and the thinner half for warmer nights means that I worry a lot less about if my child is too hot or too cold and she looks a lot comfier. The fact that the two halves can zip together for use on a single bed means that we can use it for a long time to come. The quality of this quilt means that I don’t have to look for something better quality or easier to use or that my toddler likes more as I honestly don’t think I or my daughter could find anything better. The colour easily matches with any bedroom style and all of our other Ergopouch bedtime product designs (pyjamas, sheets, pillowcases).

It is soft and plush to the touch and you can just feel how good the quality of the materials are. It has been easy and simple to wash and quick to dry and my toddler loves it. She still wants to practice bedtime throughout the day if it means she can snuggle under this quilt over and over again. She actually wants to bring this quilt everywhere we go and I have to discourage her from bringing it to the park. We do bring this away on holidays with us and its easy to travel with and my daughter loves the familiarity of being able to sleep with the same bedding while away. I wish it came in adults bed sizing as it would make my bedtime easier, more comfortable and more enjoyable too.

Another Ergopouch product we have now added to our bedtime routine that neither me or my daughter could do without."

"The convertible quilt was extremely easy to use. With its design of a zip down the middle it was the perfect first step in introducing a sleeping aid to the cot.

My daughter is 2 years and 8 months old. In full toddler swing and with a mind of her own, this would only work if she wanted it to.

We got it out and she sat on the couch practicing how to pull it up and over herself. It turned into a fun game!

As it's Summer, we unzipped it and used the light TOG in the cot. The first few nights she was excited to use it. What I was surprised by was that my daughter was ready she grabbed it from the chair and used it as a pillow. Perhaps not the intended use of the product, but nevertheless she wanted to use it. In the world of a toddler that's a huge win!

In short, we love how simple it is to use. It's soft, comfortable and something my daughter wants to use. As we slowly transition into a bed this year I know it's going to make that transition easier."

"I have been extremely happy with the ErgoPouch Convertible Quilt and would highly recommend it to other parents. Overall, I really liked this product and found it to be both practical and well designed. What stood out most to me was the two-way TOG feature, which makes it easy to adjust the warmth depending on the season or room temperature. Being able to switch between the two TOG ratings without needing a completely different quilt is incredibly convenient and takes the guesswork out of keeping my child comfortable overnight.

The cot-to-toddler-bed conversion is another feature I genuinely appreciated. The size and design allow the quilt to be used first in a cot and then transition seamlessly to a toddler bed, which makes it feel like a long-term investment rather than something that will be quickly outgrown. It fits securely and neatly, without excess fabric bunching up, which gave me extra peace of mind.

In terms of quality, the materials feel soft, breathable, and gentle, while still being warm enough for cooler nights. I also found it very easy to use — the zips are straightforward, and adjusting the TOG layers is quick and intuitive.

Overall, the ErgoPouch Convertible Quilt is a thoughtfully designed, high-quality product that offers comfort, flexibility, and longevity. It has made bedtime simpler and more reliable, and I feel confident using it as my child grows."

What stage of your cot to bed transition journey did you use the Convertible Quilt?

"We started using the Convertible Quilt toward the end of our cot stage, while my toddler was still sleeping in the cot and using a sleeping bag. At that point, we used only the lighter TOG half, which helped gently introduce the idea of a quilt without changing his sleep routine too abruptly.

The quilt became especially helpful during the transition to a bed. Being able to zip the two halves together meant we didn’t need to buy a new quilt when we made the move; we simply adapted what he was already familiar with. After a couple of nights, we then added a quilt cover. That was probably more to ease my own mind that we weren’t coming on too strong with the changes. He’s already a great sleeper, so avoiding too many big changes at once was really important to me.

I think that familiarity played a big role in how smooth the transition was, particularly when moving away from the sleeping bag. He accepted the change without any resistance, which felt like a win.

Looking ahead, I can definitely see the quilt continuing to be useful. The ability to adjust both the TOG and the size means it will work across different seasons and as he becomes more independent with his bedding. At the moment, because the weather is warm, we’ve been using the lighter half as the top layer. I imagine in the cooler months we’ll simply flip it so the 7.0 TOG half is on top instead.

Overall, it feels like a product that supports multiple stages of the sleep journey rather than something that’s quickly outgrown." - Abby

"We used this quilt right at the start of our bed transition journey from cot to toddler bed. Id been putting it off for fear of this change disrupting my daughters sleep but turns out I had nothing to worry about. She had no difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep and woke
up normal time in the morning. This quilt made the transition feel like nothing and is now irreplaceable in my daughters room. I also see this quilt continuing to be helpful when we transition to a single bed and I imagine this change also being simple and easier than I think with the use of this product." - Brigette

"We used the Convertible Quilt during the early stages of our cot-to-bed transition. At the moment, we are in the phase of encouraging our child to sleep in her toddler bed overnight, while still using the cot for daytime naps only. I found the Convertible Quilt particularly helpful during this stage because it provided a sense of familiarity and comfort as we moved away from the cot. Using the same quilt helped make the transition feel less disruptive and more consistent for her, which has been really important during this adjustment period.

The size and design of the quilt work well on the toddler bed, and knowing it had already been safely used in the cot gave me confidence when making the change. It has helped maintain a consistent sleep routine and environment, which I believe has supported her settling and sleep quality during this transition.

I can definitely envision the Convertible Quilt continuing to be helpful in future stages of our sleep journey. Its adaptability means it won’t be quickly outgrown, and the two-way TOG feature will remain useful as seasons change and her needs continue to evolve.

Overall, it feels like a practical, long-term solution that supports both the transition stage we’re currently in and the stages still to come." - Emily

"Yes, we are still in a cot so used it as the initial sleep aid to wean out of sleep sacks. She did this very quickly."

What were your thoughts of the 2 TOG rated sides (3.5 & 7.0 TOG)? and how did you use the during your trial?

"I really liked the idea of the two TOG rated sides, as it made the quilt feel very adaptable rather than specific to a particular season.

During our trial, we primarily used the 3.5 TOG side while my toddler was still in the cot and while the weather was warmer. It provided enough warmth without overheating, which was important, especially as he was still transitioning away from a sleeping bag at that stage.

Once we zipped both halves together for use on the bed, the two TOG ratings continued to be useful. Because the weather has been quite warm, we’ve been placing the lighter 3.5 TOG side on top. I can easily see how, as the weather cools, we’ll simply flip the quilt so the 7.0 TOG side is on top instead, rather than needing to swap to a different quilt altogether.

Overall, the dual TOG design made it easy to adjust warmth without disrupting his sleep or changing bedding, and it feels like a practical, well-thought-out feature that will continue to be useful across seasons." - Abby

"The 2 TOG rated halves have made dressing for bedtime a million times easier. Its so simple to use, one for cool weather and one for warm weather. By either using long sleeve or short sleeve pyjamas with it, all bases are covered and I am confident that my child is sleeping at a safe and comfortable temperature. More confident than I have felt since her birth. We used the 3.5 TOG side for hot nights and the 7 TOG for cooler nights and these two options made sleep simple and a lot less stressful."
- Brigette

"I really liked the two TOG–rated sides and found them to be one of the most practical features of the Convertible Quilt. Having both the 3.5 TOG and 7.0 TOG options built into the one product made it easy to adapt to changing temperatures without needing multiple quilts. Living in Tasmania, where the weather can be unpredictable, this flexibility was especially valuable.

During our trial, we used both sides. We started with the higher 7.0 TOG side during a relatively cooler Christmas period, which kept our child comfortably warm overnight without the need for extra layers. More recently, as we’ve moved into a mini heat wave, we switched to the 3.5 TOG side. The transition between sides was simple and quick, and it was reassuring to know we could adjust the warmth so easily in response to sudden temperature changes.

I also appreciated the peace of mind that came with clearly labelled TOG ratings, as it made it easier to dress appropriately and avoid overheating. Overall, the two TOG–rated sides made the quilt feel extremely versatile and well suited to Tasmania’s variable climate.

It’s a thoughtful design feature that I found genuinely useful during our trial and expect will continue to be helpful across seasons." - Emily

"We love the concept. It's Summer now, so we used the 3.5 TOG in the cot."

How would you describe the quality of the Convertible Quilt?

"The Convertible Quilt has honestly been great quality. It feels super soft but still really well made and the cotton is breathable and comfy. The stitching and zipper feel sturdy too, so I feel confident it will hold up with regular use.

We’ve only washed it once so far, but it came out really well. There were no changes to the integrity of the quilt. It’s just as soft as before, hasn’t lost its shape, and hasn’t clumped or bunched up at all. It still feels brand new, which is reassuring, especially for something meant to last a long time. Overall, it feels like a really solid quilt that’s going to last.

I do really want to emphasise how soft it is. I would describe it as buttery and light, however it keeps the warmth as well which is very surprising for how light it feels." - Abby

"The Convertible Quilt was soft to touch and sleep with and not itchy or scratchy. The material was very breathable. The quilted design was sturdy and prevented the filling from gathering or clumping even after washing. It has tight and even stitches that seem like they can hold up to a rough toddler and all their different sleeping positions. The quality and breathability of both quilt halves gave me great confidence that this was the right choice and best choice for my daughters sleep and was safe. The quilt washed well and easily, the filling didn't clump and the material didn't loose its softness. It dried quickly with no shrinkage."
- Brigette

"The quality of the Convertible Quilt feels excellent. The fabric is soft, breathable, and gentle against my child’s skin, yet still substantial enough to feel warm and durable. The stitching and construction appear very well made, and it has a premium feel overall."
- Emily

"It is very soft and comfortable"

Would you purchase this product for the RRP of $169.95?

"Yes, I would definitely purchase the Convertible Quilt for this price due to the sheer quality, the 2 different TOG rated sides and the ability to use this on a toddler bed as well as zip together for a single bed. This has made a huge difference to our bedtime routine and has helped me feel a million times more confident that my child is dressed at the right temperature for a comfortable and safe sleep. How can you put a price on that?" - Brigette

"Yes, When I see the price, I think there is a mental block because it is quite expensive. I imagine a price of up to $149.95 would be more of a win if I was browsing the internet. In saying that, though, now that I've personally tested it and seen and felt the quality and versatility of it, I definitely have changed my mind. I will be recommending this to my friends and family when it comes time for them to purchase a quilt."
- Abby

"Yes, I would definitely purchase the Convertible Quilt at the RRP of $169.95. The main reason is its versatility — being able to use it from cot to toddler bed and adjust the TOG for different seasons makes it a very practical investment. I also anticipate it will be used for a prolonged period, which adds real value compared to buying multiple quilts or bedding as my child grows. Considering the quality, thoughtful design, and long-term usability, I feel the price is justified."
- Emily

"No, Perhaps not for the price. We had recently opted to buy the quilted coverlet in a 30% sale from ErgoPouch for when we move her into a bed. It was slightly cheaper and we hadn't considered needing it in the transition."
- Jenni
