There is a new member in the ergoPouch product family. Everyone meet – Butterfly Cardi.
We have received a lot of feedback about some babies (and tired parents) who struggle in the process of transitioning out of swaddling to arms-out sleeping. Parents worry about this stage and sometimes delay it, which can be unsafe if their child is already rolling their body over. Since ergoPouch is designed for sleep, we would like to help parents and their mini babes who find this whole process daunting, get some rest too.
The Butterfly Cardi is designed to help in the transition from a swaddled sleeper to an arms-out dreamer, easier! Since the Cardi still provides a contained environment in the fold-over pockets and adjustable width, it reduces the initial shock of taking an arm out straight away which some babies, simply find difficult to adjust to. When your baby shows signs of rolling, these butterfly-like pockets can gently assist your little one onto the next critical stage, arms-out sleeping.
If you are worried about the transition and would like to try the Butterfly Cardi, let us explain how to use this further.
Your little one will begin to roll their body over, from back to front or tummy time onto their back around 2-6 months of age (each child is beautifully different so this stage can happen early or later, there is no exact time). When this first sign of rolling does eventually happen, it is time to transition your swaddled baby to an arms-out sleeper for their safety. Check out our Ready to Roll blog post if you’re unsure of the signs that your baby is ready.
The Butterfly Cardi is designed to be worn over their Cocoon Swaddle Bag or any swaddle/sleeping bag, to help them transition to arms-out with minimal sleep interruptions and maximum sleep comfort. With anything new, your baby may take time to adjust. That’s ok! Give them a few days to become familiar to this new way of sleeping. Be prepared for an unsettled period during this time, but before you know it, you’ll have a little champion sleeping with both their arms out.
Here is a recommended timeline of how to use the new Butterfly Cardi:
DAY 1 - 3
Use the press studs to adjust the firmness of the Cardi around the torso. If your baby has a strong startle reflex, start with a tight fit. If your baby has a low startle reflex, you can start with the looser fit.
DAY 4 - 7
DAY 8 - 10
If you anticipate the process out of swaddling will be daunting one for you and your baby, we suggest trying the Butterfly Cardi. With this ready to go in your sleepwear stash, you’ve got this transition in the bag!
